The local town of Pickering offers charming old inns, a 12th-century castle & remarkable mediaeval frescoes in the local church. The North Yorkshire steam railway runs from here through spectacular moorland scenery to Grosmont. Flamingoland at Kirby Misperton, the Folk Museum at Hutton-le-Hole and the military museum at Eden Camp are all only a few miles from Normanby and excellent places to visit especially if you have children. Kirbymoorside and Ganton Golf Clubs are on the doorstep and there are numerous other golf courses in the region. The east coast resorts of Scarborough, Bridlington and Filey are half an hour or so away. The historic old port of Whitby with its Captain Cook connections is 18 miles and close by lie the picturesque fishing villages of Staithes and Robin Hood's Bay. Food is served in the village pub, The Sun Inn, which has recently been refurbished. The Star, (awarded a Michelin Star), and The Pheasant Inn at Harome are also near by. We wish you a wonderful holiday in the heart of North Yorkshire. |
